She said Mr Parker had discussed the situation with senior colleagues and come to the conclusion that he should step down.
In a standup with Radio New Zealand Mr Parker said he had also reflected upon comments made in the media.
Yesterday Mr Parker resigned from the role of Attorney General following an expose in Investigate Magazine concerning his making false declarations in documents filed with the Companies Office.
This morning, according to a spokesman for the PM, Mr Parker approached the Prime Minister and advised her that on reflection he wanted to step down from all portfolios.
The Prime Minister said that Trevor Mallard would take on the role of Minister of Energy and Pete Hodgson would take on the Transport portfolio. Michael Cullen yesterday took back the job of Attorney General.
